Iowa Dentists license renewal approaches

Iowa dentists are required to complete their 30 hours of continuing education by June 30, 2008. Of the 30 required hours, 12 can be taken online or through correspondence, in the comfort of the Dentists own home and the convenience of working around their schedule. The 30 hours must include Certification in CPR (which can NOT be done through Home Study), six hours of Sedation for Dentists with a deep sedation/general anesthesia or conscious sedation permit, and Abuse Identification and Reporting Training. The final course listed must be completed within six months of initial permit, and every five years thereafter.

The renewal process requires completion of a Continuing Education Form from the Iowa Dental Board. Exemptions are provided for persons in case of illness or disability, and a detailed explanation of Dental Continuing Education Exemptions can be found on the state website.

If renewing an inactive license, one must pay a renewal fee and submit an online application for renewal, and proof of completed continuing education is required.
