Iowa Dentists license renewal approaches

Iowa dentists are required to complete their 30 hours of continuing education by June 30, 2008. Of the 30 required hours, 12 can be taken online or through correspondence, in the comfort of the Dentists own home and the convenience of working around their schedule. The 30 hours must include Certification in CPR (which can NOT be done through Home Study), six hours of Sedation for Dentists with a deep sedation/general anesthesia or conscious sedation permit, and Abuse Identification and Reporting Training. The final course listed must be completed within six months of initial permit, and every five years thereafter.

The renewal process requires completion of a Continuing Education Form from the Iowa Dental Board. Exemptions are provided for persons in case of illness or disability, and a detailed explanation of Dental Continuing Education Exemptions can be found on the state website.

If renewing an inactive license, one must pay a renewal fee and submit an online application for renewal, and proof of completed continuing education is required.

Healthcare Turning Digital

The Internet has changed the way we function, as a society. E-mail has eliminated the need to write letters and send them through snail-mail. Online shopping now allows you to stay at home and pick out your hearts desires for the best price while UPS does the physical work of delivering your item to your doorstep. News travels fast, from one end of the world to the next – you can find any information on anyone, anytime, with a few keywords and a click of the mouse. And now, more and more, Healthcare professionals are spending their weekends attending personal matters rather than in a classroom, taking their annual or bi-annual continuing education.

National Medical Education, formerly known as Scripps, has been providing CE courses through correspondence for Radiologic Technologists, Respiratory Technicians, Laboratory Technicians, Nurses, and Dentists. Books and exams were ordered and mailed to the student, and returned to NME for grading and exchanged with a certificate of CE completion. More and more, however, students are turning to online courses and exams – with 24/7 Sales and Customer Support, students are able to download their course material and take the online exam. Once the online exam is complete, they are given their grade, real-time, and a certificate automatically auto-populates with the information they entered at registration and is conveniently ready to print. Considering the growing healthcare demand, as recently stated by U.S.News in Ahead-of-the-Curve Careers, Healthcare professionals now no longer have to take time off when they are just days away from their license expiration dates.

Florida Dental License Renewal

Florida Dentists and Hygienists are due to have their licenses renewed by February 29, 2008. Home Study Educators has seen a busy month of January, and is expecting a busy February, as Dentists and Dental Hygienists comply with the state’s regulations. Becoming increasingly popular, especially with the approach of the fixed deadline, are Online Dental CE Courses, which the dentists and hygienists can access the moment they are registered. Online course takers give users full control of their continued education courses, including self-pacing, and an online test provides immediate grading and a automatically generated certificate.

Dentists are required to complete 30 CE hours, and Dental Hygienists are required 24 CE hours, and both professions are required to complete Domestic Violence as well as Medical Errors. Professionals who miss their deadline must renew with the Florida Department of Health in Tallahassee, or submit their paperwork through the mail, which will take approximately two to three weeks. A fee of $105 is required to renew if CE is not completed on time. Visit the Department of Health’s website at ww2.doh.state.fl.us for additional questions.
